Click on the Apple Logo at the left hand top of your screen. Then pull up a copy of Sims 4 (off of Origin or Amazon) and it should list the specs for the game. Compare the two and if you have enough memory, etc. You should be ok. Second Star to the Right and Straight on 'til Morning. The Sims 3 mac port is awful, the windows version is bad enough but the mac version is a complete trainwreck so don't even bother trying especially since it's just an air. Sims 4 is a much better made game so it should run, you'll have to play on low settings, CC and mods are probably a no and I would recommend adding your favourite DLC first. It could yes but as you've tried a different user account then your saves etc. Wouldn't be loading – unless you copied over the Sims 4 folder and tried playing the same game? You need to try a completely new, clean game with no saves/CC/mods/etc.
